Audi supports application by Wittelsbacher Ausgleichsfonds
It is an ambitious aim: Germany desires to play host to the 2018 Ryder Cup for the first time since its inaugural event in 1927. Audi supports the bid by the RC Deutschland GmbH for the most prestigious golf tournament worldwide, at which the world’s twelve best players from Europe and the United States, respectively, compete every two years, at the golf course of the Wittelsbacher Ausgleichsfonds in Neuburg/Rohrenfeld.
Just once the Ryder Cup has not been played either in the United States or in the British Isles: Spain was the venue of the traditional transatlantic duel in 1997. With its financial and public support of the bidding phase of the Wittelsbacher Golfclub, Audi makes a clear commitment to the region.
“Amateur and professional golf has a high priority at Audi and has enjoyed an equally long and successful tradition,” says Peter Schwarzenbauer, Member of the Management Board for Marketing and Sales of AUDI AG. “By supporting the RC Deutschland GmbH in its bid for the 2018 Ryder Cup at the golf course of the Wittelsbacher Ausgleichsfonds in Neuburg/Rohrenfeld we wish to take a stand on behalf of the region whose major employer is AUDI AG. We look forward to an exciting bidding phase.” Other countries bidding to host the 2018 Ryder Cup are Spain, Portugal, France and the Netherlands. The final decision of the venue will be made in spring of 2011.
The support of the Ryder Cup bid is just one element of Audi’s extensive commitment in golf. The year 2010 is dominated by the 20th anniversary of the Audi quattro Cup. Over the past two decades, more than a million amateur golfers have played for victory in national tournaments and the world finale at the most beautiful golf courses around the globe. In addition to the Audi Ladies Cup as the counterpart for female golfers, the partnerships with the “Süddeutsche Zeitung Business Golf Cup” and the German Golf Association (DGV) are part of the program again. A highlight of the current season was the UniCredit Ladies German Open that was again held under the symbol of the Four Rings with Audi as presenting sponsor.
